The Best Tips to Avoid Drywall Texturing Mistakes
The last stage of drywall finishing is either painting or texturing. Although this last one may seem like the easiest part when it comes to drywall and painting, it’s not. So, what are the main problems here? If you want smooth walls that you just want to paint, you run the risk of exposing all the minor imperfections on your drywall. But then again, if you want texturing, you run the risk of concealing these imperfections. Granted, most people prefer drywall texturing just for this reason alone, it doesn’t make a great deal of sense either.
Follow drywall texture instructions to the letter
So, have you have settled on which drywall texture technique works best for your home style yet? As there is not just one type of texture, and then again the way paint is applied also varies, depending on the desired results. For example, orange peel, knockdown, skip-trowel, slap brush, and other textures all provide different results, and none of them are easy to achieve. So if you want more than just plain painted walls, hiring a professional is the best way to achieve it.
Did you mix the drywall texture the correct way?
If you decide to go down the DIY route, then part of the texturing instructions pertains to mixing the paint properly. Some textures have to be thicker than others, however, this is also subject to the drywall condition, for example, if you want to hide minor imperfections, then the mixture needs to be thicker, and to your texture preference. All in all, the mixture needs to be not too thin or too thick. Take the orange peel, for example, if the mixture is too thick, it will resemble more of a popcorn texture. All the same, it’s better to keep adding water slowly than to just make the mix too thin.
Tip: Try to avoid using very cold water, as this will make the mix thinner.
